Low-Income Housing Challenge, The Bank of America Merrill Lynch

Graduate student adviser for 2016 / 2017 / 2018 / 2019 co advised with Drew Sanderford Ph.D.

Teams to provide a proposal for the development of housing for low to moderate income residents. Multidiciplinary teams + academic advisor + developer sponsor. Graduate and undergraduate level. The challenge seeks projects that will exemplify affordable-housing development in the current economic and fiscal climate while demonstrating excellence in design and sustainability. Potential funding for the winner team.

2019 Finals, San Francisco California: 2nd national place

+ Honorable mention "Community impact and environmental approach to the project", Barrio West Menlo Park, Tucson by Ocotillo Development.

·       The design responded & listened to community needs.

·       Environmental considerations were impressive including consideration regarding heat (through shading – building envelope & landscaping) and sustainability, storm water capture and treatment, and mitigating heat island effects.

·       Creating the Greenway: threading pedestrian connections to the park & community.

Managed and coordinated several housing projects funded by San Jose de la Dehesa Foundation.

Oversaw geographical analysis and market studies for land acquisition suitable for housing all over the country.

Made presentations and provided guidance to complement public policies for housing and consulted on the application of subsidies in 151 municipalities.


Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, Atacama desert, Chile

Designed and built low income housing for nine different redevelopment projects in the Atacama desert region.

+500 Housing units in the towns of Tierra Amarilla, Paipote, Caldera, Carrizal Bajo, Junta de Valeriano, Nantoco, San Pedro, Caleta Chanaral, Carrizalillo.
